Description
SSC 160 Environmental Justice - This course explores meanings and practices of environmental justice during an age of deepening climate crisis and rising social movements from the Bay Area to the global level. Taking an interdisciplinary, intersectional, and interactive approach, the class invites you to forge your own understanding of environmental justice by examining historical patterns that have created socio-environmental inequalities and examples of people organizing for environmental justice. Each week, we will confront major environmental injustices while building skills of evidence-based argumentation, persuasive writing, research methods, and analysis of diverse media. This is a three-unit lower division seminar course that meets once a week for three hours with no prerequisites. This is a general education course.
