Description

SMG 401 LEGAL AND SOCIAL ISSUES IN SPORTS MANAGEMENT This course offers an overview of legal and social issues in the sports industry. We refer to both the heart of sport and the cultural context of sport as we consider legal issues a professional or college sports enterprise encounters today, plus those that loom on the horizon. Those issues include matters of contract, labor, agency, tort, tax, antitrust, corporate, criminal and constitutional law. We also address selected issues related to player contracts, injury liability, broadcasting agreements, media rights, stadium financing, club valuation, race & diversity, college player compensation, Title IX, drug testing, gambling and social media. Prerequisites: MGT 206, SMG 250
