Description
These sessions are restricted to those students who have agreed to serve as peer mentors to the incoming freshmen and transfer students. The prerequisites to enrollment are that the mentors have completed the 2010 Leadershape summer workshop and/or have been involved in student government and/or are residence hall assistants, all of which require formal preparation. This is a unique two-unit class designed to provide a forum for the evaluation of, reflection on, and processing of your experiences as a peer mentor. The class discussions will focus on topics such as roommate conflicts (clarifying the rules of the room) Menlo?s social scene (remembering that everyone is struggling with something), academics (understanding what?s in a grade or not), study skills (making a significant investment in your future), sexuality (choosing to hook up or not), and mental health (recognizing that problems are usually more complicated from the inside).
