PSY 312 SPORTS PSYCHOLOGY This course surveys current issues and research in sport psychology recognizing that sport is a microcosm of society and is influenced by cultural traditions, social values and psychosocial experiences. Topical areas to be included are as follows: sport aggression, violence and deviant behavior in sport, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, personality and interpersonal relationships in sport, competitiveness, goal setting and peak performance, substance abuse, burnout and psychosocial rehabilitation. This course emphasizes the understanding and application of theoretical paradigms and concepts to sport events and pragmatic vocational settings.
Prerequisites: PSY 101, ENG 102 “C-” or better. Cross-listed with SMG 312
