Description

LIT 308 Latinx Literature -Through the lens of literature and other forms of cultural production (music, the visual arts, film, etc.), this course examines issues of Latinx identity and the Latinx experience in the US, including: bilingualism and code-switching; labeling race/ethnicity and the complexities of Latinx racial identity; gender identity and the machismo/marianismo paradigm; identity and citizenship; queer Latinx identities; cultural Catholicism and the role of religion; pan-hispanism and the rhetoric of latinidad. While the course will explore the concept and the construction of Latinx identity, it will also emphasize the diversity of experiences of the Latin American diasporas in the US. Prerequisite: ENG 102 “C-” or better.
