    Description

    BIO 110 Human Nutrition - This is an introductory science course in human nutrition for non-majors. The topics covered will include: 1. Introduction to Nutrition – The scientific method of investigation and how it is used to make important discoveries on human nutrition, including energy balance and eating disorders. 2. The chemistry of living organisms, different types of bonds and their interactions, carbohydrates, proteins, nucleic acids and lipids. 3. Guidelines for nutrition; the Dietary Reference Intakes, Dietary Guidelines, the food label. 4. Cell structure, function – components of a cell. 5. How cells harvest energy – aerobic and anaerobic respiration. 6. Human Digestive System. 7. Digestion of carbs, fats and proteins, and their absorption and transport in the Gastro-Intestinal (GI) tract. Common disorders of the GI tract. 8. Dietary intake and Human Body Composition 9.
